VTR – Purchase Advisory System

Before you buy, find out what you are taking on.

Before you buy, find out what you are taking on.

It is not only the price of the car that matters. It is also what you should know about it before deciding.

You have found the car you want. You like its equipment, its mileage looks right, and the price may even seem favourable. But do you know which known problems the particular engine, gearbox or drivetrain may carry?

The VTR – Purchase Advisory System is a professionally checked purchase decision support, prepared for one specific car you intend to buy. It combines a technical risk analysis with the checking, questioning and decision points you should consider before buying.

VTR – 1 car: €20. VTR – 3 cars: €40. All prices are gross.

VTR is a technical analysis. It does not include a market valuation or a price estimate of the car.

What does VTR answer?

1. Which technical risks should you accept?

We look at the documented problem areas of the exact engine, gearbox, drivetrain, generation and production period. We highlight only the risks that are materially relevant to the configuration. We separate general model knowledge from what can really be established about the specific car from the listing, the seller and the documents you provide.

2. What should you check before buying?

We compile the points to verify at a workshop, the documents to request, and the questions to put to the seller before you commit.

Together, the two answers give a more useful picture of whether an offer is worth pursuing further, and under which conditions.

What do we review in VTR?

Exact vehicle configuration, not a general model name

We identify the make, model, generation and, as far as the data allows, the combination of engine, gearbox, power, production period, drivetrain and key equipment. This matters because one model can be built in several different ways.

Known and documented technical risks

We review relevant problem areas, for example engine, control systems, turbocharger, gearbox, emission systems, suspension, electronics and, for electric and hybrid cars, the relevant high-voltage and drivetrain units. We only highlight risks that are materially linked to the specific configuration.

History, condition and missing information

We review what can be learned from the listing, the documents you provide, the service history, the photos and your questions. We clearly separate what is documented, what the seller claims and what remains unverified.

Questions and checking points before purchase

We compile what to ask the seller, which documents to request, and which points an independent workshop should check before you decide.

Professional purchase assessment

Based on the available data and uncertainties, we summarise under which conditions it seems justified to proceed, and what must be clarified before buying. We do not give a guarantee of faultlessness, and we do not claim to have inspected the car’s actual condition remotely.

Who is it especially useful for?

If this will be your first used car

You do not need to know every engine code or gearbox type to ask good questions. VTR helps you see which factors to watch for on the car you have chosen.

If you are looking at a technically complex car

High mileage, an automatic gearbox, all-wheel drive, diesel emission systems, plug-in hybrid or electric drive make the technical picture more complex, and an advance check is especially worthwhile.

If you have several promising candidates

The three-car package lets you compare different models, or several examples of the same type, using consistent criteria.

If you want to know what sits behind a low advertised price

A low advertised price alone does not mean a good purchase. VTR examines the risks linked to the model and to the specific offer.

How does VTR work?

Scroll right for the steps →

1

Package

1. You choose the one- or three-car package. For the first car you can enter the required details immediately; with the three-car package the other two entitlements can be used later.
2

Vehicle data

2. You enter the specific vehicle and the listing offer. Registration or chassis number, make, model, engine, year, power, mileage, equipment, listing and price – together with the required details, photos and your own questions.
3

Payment

3. After complete data entry you finalise and pay for the order. The planned payment solution is Barion; card payment can only start after the required details have been checked.
4

Analysis

4. We prepare and professionally check the analysis. We summarise the relevant technical information, the points that can be read from the specific offer and the known risks of the configuration.
5

Result

5. You receive the VTR result. In a digital professional summary you see the essential risks, the purchase summary, the inspection recommendations and the limits of the analysis. Access and the delivery format are shown at ordering, according to the service as actually launched.

Producing the result requires professional review; it is not an automatic, instant fault diagnosis.

What do you need to provide for the order?

To identify the specific vehicle precisely and to prepare the technical analysis, we ask for the following information:

  • Vehicle identification: registration number or chassis number (VIN), make, model, variant, year, first registration (if known).
  • Technical characteristics: engine, fuel/drive type, power in kW or hp, gearbox, mileage, equipment.
  • Purchase offer: listing link or the seller’s offer, the requested price and currency, the country where the car is offered.
  • Condition and history: known faults, damage, service history, important repairs, and a note if something is not known.
  • Your own question: what worries you most, why you chose this car, and what you would like advice on.

At least five vehicle photos are required: three exterior views (front three-quarter, rear three-quarter, side), one of the dashboard or front interior and one of the rear seats. Photos from the listing or the seller may be used if you are entitled to share them.

The relevant page of the registration certificate and service documents are optional; cover up any personal data that is not needed. Payment can only be started after the required, complete vehicle form and a successful photo upload.

Choose your VTR package

VTR – 1 car | €20

€20 – gross. For a pre-purchase technical analysis of one specific vehicle.

Includes an overview of the documented technical risks linked to the exact configuration, the most important checking questions and the professional purchase summary. It does not include a market valuation.

Choose it if you already have the car in mind and want to research it more thoroughly before deciding.

I request VTR – 1 car, €20

VTR – 3 cars | €40

€40 – gross. A full technical VTR analysis of three separate vehicles.

Three separate single-car VTRs would cost a total of €60. With the package you save €20, 33.33%. The average cost of one analysis in the package is about €13.33.

Choose it if you are weighing several cars, are still searching, or want two further analysis options even after your first candidate falls through.

I request VTR – 3 cars, €40

The package entitles you to three separate VTR analyses. You do not have to provide all three cars at once: you can order after completing the full form for the first car, and the other two entitlements can be used later with separate forms. You will learn the exact conditions of use and entitlements before payment.

Why is the three-car VTR package good?

Because buying a used car rarely concerns just one listing. One car gets sold before you can view it. Another has questionable service history. A third offers better equipment but a more complex drivetrain.

The package does not encourage you to buy three cars. It gives you the option to prepare up to three separate purchase decisions with the same carefully considered method.

What VTR does not cover

  • It does not provide a market valuation or a price estimate of the car.
  • It does not replace a physical inspection, diagnostics or a warranty.
  • It does not state that a specific car is faultless or faulty unless evidence supports this.

Before you sign the purchase contract, ask the right questions.

The most important part of buying a used car is not how much information you find online, but whether you receive the right information for that specific car in time.

VTR helps you review the technical configuration, the documentable risks and the necessary inspection points together.
